YMCA holds 2016 Annual Meeting with thanks and recognition of volunteers and supporters

A healthy celebration!

The Granite YMCA holds 2016 annual meeting, recognizes and thanks key volunteers and supporters

Manchester, NH: (January 9, 2017)  More than 150 volunteers, community supporters, donors and employees gathered in December to recognize and celebrate the many accomplishments of The Granite YMCA over the past year.

“Our annual meeting is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the past year, thank and recognize the many who helped support the Y’s mission, and share our vision for the future,” said Hal Jordan, President and CEO of The Granite YMCA. Among the many highlights of the event were special awards given to key volunteers, employees and organizations.  Those recognized included:

Youth award: Catherine Johnston

As a member of the YMCA of Downtown Manchester’s Leader’s Club for four years, Catherine is serving as the club’s President this year.  During her time at the YMCA, she has also volunteered in a number of areas including child care, camp and sports.  Catherine is deserving of this award for her commitment to the Y’s cause and her hands-on efforts with the Leader’s Club.  Beyond her strong support for Teen Leaders Rallies which have helped boost attendee numbers, she deserves this award for the way she welcomes new members and her uncanny ability to become friends with even the shyest teen within minutes. She is able to encourage people to break out of their shell and challenge their comfort zones. “Catherine is a shining example of what it means to be a leader,” said Mr. Jordan.

Volunteer of the year: Dr. John Lombardi

As a board volunteer for over 12 years, Dr. Lombardi has been supporting our YMCA via many different avenues. His company has been a generous sponsor of our financial aid programs and he has provided leadership for a unique project which raised over $120,000 for a special cause. Dr. Lombardi has served as an Advisory Board Chair for the YMCA of Greater Londonderry, chaired the branch’s Reach Out for Youth and Families campaign and has been a tireless advocate with other local businesses to support the YMCA’s cause.  “John’s passion for the YMCA is evident in all that he does on our behalf, noted Mr. Jordan.  “He is a true YMCA champion and very deserving of our Volunteer of the Year.”

Community service awards:

· The association also presented community service awards to key community business partners for their charitable support.  They included: JC Penney (Support for Youth Opportunities Unlimited Program), True Value Company - Manchester Distribution Center (support for The YMCA of Greater Londonderry for the past 2 ½ years), MegaFood (support for camping and gardening programs and Reach Out for Youth and Families Campaign)

Chairman’s awards:

· In recognition of his service as a board member, team leader for capital campaigns and co-chair of annual dinner, Jim Ferro was presented with a Chairman’s award.

· In recognition of his dedicated service as a special education teacher in the Y’s STRIVE program and as a volunteer, Brandan Simpson was presented with a Chairman’s award

· In recognition of her service on the association’s Resident camp advisory board, Allyson DiGregory Looney was presented with a Chairman’s award.

“All of our volunteers and donors are truly part of the bedrock of our association,” Mr. Jordan noted.  “We can’t thank them enough for their dedicated service on behalf of those we serve.”
