Sean Colligan Wins the "Race To The Villa 5K" race - 2 June 2012
GOFFSTOWN - 2 June 2012 - 9:45am: The Villa Augustina School held their inaugural "Race To The Villa 5K" event this morning with over 50 registrants ready to go at 8am start time.
The race started out on a wide, flat trail via Normand Road and runners then headed south on Mast Road,, toward the Village Center. Following entry along Mast Road from Normand Road, runners moved right on to Shirley Park Road and back to Mast Road where the Saint Lawrence Church is located. A water station was set up for runners at this location. Many thanks to the Goffstown Police Department for keeping traffic away from the runners and the many volunteers who managed the safety cones, start / finish line and throughout the event.
The race began at 8am and wrapped up by 9am on a 5K (3.1 miles) and was expected to be under 19 minutes for the lead runner. This event was held in a steady rain this morning, however it was not a deterrent by any runners, staff and volunteers. The mood was exciting and everyone waited in anticipation for the 1st runner to cross the finish line.
Congratulations to Sean Colligan (above left photo) of Goffstown, #11 with a race time of 17minutes and 14 seconds. The bar has now been set for future events as for now, Sean holds the record for the win, the fastest runner, now for someone to outdo his accomplishment in 2013. Organizers were very pleased with the turnout and all went very well and smooth for a safe road environment and plenty of fun for everyone.
Sean was accompanied by his mother, Sheri (right photo) and both reside in Goffstown. Sean is a recent graduate of Bates College in Maine with a Neuroscience Bachelor of Arts Degree. His goal is to find employment in his field of study in the near term. Sean is glad to be back home and enjoyed the race immensely, especially since his win today.
