LETTER TO THE EDITOR - 8 June 2012: Do you remember the sitcom character "The Fonz" from Happy Days? He was incapable of admitting and saying he was "wrong." Stacy Buckley, Superintendent of SAU 19 has the same problem. She is too prideful to admit she has done a terrible job in monitoring the behaviors of Jim Hunt, principal at Mountain View Middle School. In fact, she has supported Jim Hunt's behaviors.
Her solution to the problem, let's do a study! That will allow more time to go by. She will develop the study to be vast in scope and ask questions that lead to the predetermined outcome she wants, namely, that there is no problem at MVMS. The rubberstampers on the school board will make sure this plan goes through. They are Ginny McKinnon, Phil Pancoast, Keith Allard, and Dian McCarthy. Oh, and please do not forget the minor setback of losing Dian McCarthy's vote for the company of choice, SERESC, due to a conflict of interest. A conflict of interest that was roused out rather than revealed. Shame on Dian McCarthy.
Doing a study changes the dialogue from "remove the leadership from the building" as Scott Gross requested to which company, timelines, and monies will be spent.
Stacy tells the Goffstown School Board (GSB) to ignore the press because they are slanted. She wants the GSB to ignore Scott Gross, the four New Boston folks who spoke against doing the study at the 5/7/12 GSB meeting and the one Goffstown resident who spoke against doing a study at the 5/21/12 GSB meeting. Ginny McKinnon says she has heard from people she respects that want the study and therefore, she is supporting it. I guess she does not respect New Boston residents, Goffstown residents, and Goffstown staff who actually take the time to come out to a GSB meetings and talk to the board. Those people do not count in Mrs. McKinnon's eyes because they do not support the predetermined outcome.
I support the free study offered by Ben Hampton. He, obviously, is not part of the rubberstampers' plan. Anyone is qualified to do this study as all the information we need to know can be gathered with interviews. Interview past staff, current staff, parents and students. Even Goffstown School Board members like Ginny McKinnon would be qualified to do this study. She is not willing to do the study but she is qualified to pick up the phone and gather answers to questions.
But no, alas, we have Stacy "The Fonz" Buckley running this show. She is unable to admit she has been and continues to be wrong and therefore, taxpayers must pay up, staff members must continue to work in the toxic environment that is MVMS and of course, because of diverted funds and tension in the building, the kids are robbed of an environment of focused and happy staff.
This "Let's do a study" technique is used often at all levels of politics. In the end, if Ben Hampton is not chosen to do the study for free, everyone will suffer the consequences except for Stacy "The Fonz" Buckley who will continue with her delusion that she is not wrong.
