LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Where is the job posting for principal?
It is that time of year when administrator positions are advertized on the www.edjobsnh.com website. Searching for a new principal takes a lot of time. A Search Committee must be formed which consists of teachers, parents, Goffstown School Board members and current administrators. Some people who know the former Chair of the Goffstown School Board, Keith Allard, have told me there will be a new principal at Mountain View Middle School in September, 2012. That hopeful news is bringing joy to the current staff at MVMS. Well, four other districts have already advertized their open positions. So, where is the one from Goffstown? We need to get a chance to hire the cream of the crop of applicants for principal. So, let's go School Board.
If there is a contractual problem causing Jim Hunt, the current principal, to be retained, it will be the fault of Stacy Buckley, Superintendent. His multi-year contract ran out last year and he was given a one-year contract. The Superintendent had ample time to convey to Jim Hunt that this would be his last year, if indeed the GSB decided that. So what has happened that the position is not posted?
Did the GSB decide to retain Jim Hunt despite all the staff members who have presented their concerns to them both privately and publicly? Two staff members even provided the personal evaluations from their file to prove the utter incompetence of the current principal and the new assistant administrators he mentored. The GSB members were warned of his poor treatment of staff since November of 2008 when I addressed them in a non-public session.
Did Stacy Buckley purposely leave out wording in Jim Hunt's one-year contract opening the opportunity for a litigation threat? She has openly declared her support of him and his implementation of a "cruel and coercive" managerial style. Many administrators who cannot accept the fact that their job performance is not up to par and they are no longer welcome in the district, often threaten litigation in order to retain their job. Is that what is going on? Has Jim Hunt threatened to sue any former districts he has worked for in order to retain a job? Is he now threatening our district with litigation? There have been over 10 grievances filed from staff at MVMS during Jim Hunt's tenure. Our district has spent a considerable amount of money on attorneys' fees fighting those grievances. Let's stop spending attorneys' fees fighting staff and instead use it fighting any litigious threat coming from Jim Hunt, should there be one.
The staff at MVMS has expressed beyond the shadow of a doubt their displeasure with the job Jim Hunt is doing. Many people in town have expressed their displeasure with the job Jim Hunt is doing. People from New Boston and Dunbarton are not happy with the middle school, referring to MVMS as a black hole their children must pass through to get to the high school.
Goffstown School Board, it is well past the time for a change in leadership at the middle school. Put some motion to the process and advertize soon so we can pick from a good selection of candidates. If that decision requires attorneys' fees to be spent, it will be money well spent.
