A New Gun Shop in Town
There is a new gun shop in town that has filled one of the vacant stores. They seem very optimistic about gun sales and anticipate being very successful for a number of reasons.
There appears to be a steady interest for hunters to purchase rifles. There are also other people who feel the need for handguns for some personal protection for various reasons. A third category of gun owners is more disturbing -- those that feel that they need to protect themselves from their own government. They are arming themselves “to the teeth.”
Aren’t governments supposed to be afraid of and responsive to their own citizens and not the other way around? When did all of this change? What is Washington DC afraid of?
There is actually another handgun soon to be for sale in the new gun shop in town. This very new design handgun has a very special appeal within the political class.
Politicians seem to specialize in taking “pot shots” at their opponents and even “shooting themselves in the foot” occasionally. This new handgun usage actually seems perverse.
One political party wants to “shoot down” the policies affecting 100 million liberated women. That may not be too smart in 2012. What are they thinking?
The other political party wants to protect the union driven excesses that exist within the “binding contractual agreements” for most public employees. That may not be too smart in 2012 when the economy is in such bad shape for so many people. What are they thinking?
It is one thing for politicians of all flavors to stand together in a circle facing inward and fire their hand guns straight ahead. It is another thing entirely for these same politicians to take aim directly at themselves, although there are many voters who might prefer to watch such a spectacle.
The point to be made is that for most voters, many politicians seem to be out of touch with reality.
At a time of unending wars, rising taxes, massive unemployment, monstrous federal/state/local deficits and debt, why are our political leaders seemingly focusing on such divisive issues? Why do they even have jobs at all in the face of such ineptitude?
Maybe that is the point. By focusing on such divisive issues, politicians and our leaders distract voters from discussing temporarily painful actions that actually make a difference and can be difficult to enact.
No wonder many people have given up on voting – maybe neither party offers much difference.
It is understood that most politicians and leaders represent the status quo and are trying to keep things the same. There is however a quaint idea that our federal, state and local governments are governments “of the people, by the people and for the people.” There is also the second sentence of the Declaration of Independence that says that people have the right to change government as they see fit. These ideas shouldn’t be forgotten. In fact these ideas are vital if sanity is ever going restored to sound government.
The NH constitution, Article 10, also states the same thing about people governing.
There is an opportunity for our local politicians and leaders to change things in town. Hold them accountable! Get informed about the issues! Demand that change happens! Now! Before the gun barrel straightens out and points directly at you.
