The New Boston Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) team is seeking additional volunteers. Members will be provided training and serve to augment the New Boston Emergency Management Team responders.
Barely a dream just a year ago, New Boston’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is preparing to enter into its second year of service to the New Boston Community with a wide variety of activities. The first year of service has been focused primarily on establishing a team, recruiting volunteers and conducting the requisite minimum training. New members will complete the CERT certification course, become familiar with the New Boston EMS radio and communications equipment; tour both fire houses, and the police station. The CERT team members are recognizable by their green logo CERT headgear and distinctive clothing. The State of NH issues Emergency Equipment back packs to all the members who complete the basic training. Members have or will be offered opportunities for additional training including Red Cross Shelter Management, Red Cross First Aid and FEMA sponsored training such as a Handling Hazardous Materials.
The New Boston CERT team will also be conducting training events throughout the year. Much of this training will be open to all greater New Boston community members at large. If you have interest in CERT membership or general training activities, contact Bill Thomson, Director New Boston CERT, at 487-3021 or wp.thomson@comcast.net. Alternate points of contact include Dan MacDonald, New Boston Fire Chief at Dan.MacDonald@hp.com or Chris Krajenka New Boston Chief of Police at policechief@new-boston.nh.us
