Goffstown Post #16 had it all working in the State Championship Game as they blasted their way to their 1st American Legion State Title. Goffstown beat Rochester Post #7 for the second consecutive night in a mercy rule game. Last night was an 11-1 decision, tonight, for the Championship, Goffstown won 12-1. Goffstown was rained out on the first night of the tournament back on Friday the 23rd giving them even shorter rest for their pitchers coming out of the loser's bracket. Goffstown played 6 games in 4 days and finished 5-1, outscoring their opponents 62-24 in the tournament. Pitching was key in this one as Steve Beal (5-0) came back on just one day's rest after pitching into the 8th inning on 95 pitches versus Jutras on Sunday, to pitch a 7 inning gem in the Championship Game. He threw 110 pitches, 70 for strikes, struck out 5, allowed just 4 hits and 1 run en route to the win. He allowed just 13 hits in 3 appearances in the tournament. Defense was huge too, keeping Rochester from mounting any momentum. In the 4th inning, left fielder, Josh LaFond threw a strike to catcher Ryan Beal, nailing a runner at the plate to end the inning. In the 5th inning center fielder Brad York dove to snare a line drive and turned it into a double play as his relay throw doubled the runner off 1st base. Offensively Goffstown pounded out 16 hits and they scored runs in 5 of the 6 innings they batted. Andy Gordon was 4 for 4 with 3 RBI's and he scored twice. Ryan Beal was 3 for 4 (13 for 23 in the tourney), scored 3 runs, and had 2 RBI's. Josh LaFond had 2 hits and 3 RBI's, he had 9 RBI's in the 2 games today, and 11 RBI's in the tournament. Jake Glauser had 2 hits as well. Every starter had a hit and a run scored or RBI in this 7 inning game. Goffstown won their last 3 games of the tournament by mercy rule while totaling 42 runs and 47 hits over those 3 games. Post #16 advances to the Northeast Regional in Middletown, CT, August 5th-9th. Games will be played at historic Palmer Field.
