NH Teens Will Face-Off in FinLit300 – A Financial Literacy Competition

Goffstown - 24 March 2017: Almost 60 of New Hampshire’s most money-savvy teenagers will compete for the title of NH FinLit300 State Champion when they meet at the Grappone Center in Concord April 11th. Organized by the New Hampshire Jump$tart Coalition, FInLit300 is a powerful educational opportunity that helps to teach teenagers in Grades 9-12 to be smart, responsible, and financially literate adults. The April 11th competition will be an exciting nine match elimination tournament using a game show/quiz bowl format. The Question Masters for the State Championship are Jeff Feingold, Editor of the NH Business Review; Marc Hebert of the Harbor Group, and Sean McDonald of WMUR-TV.

Nine teams compiled the top scores and earned the right to meet for the state crown after several weeks of study and on-line competition. Each member of the championship team will receive a crisp, new $100 bill. Additionally, the winning coach/coaches will receive free registration to the National Jump$tart Teacher Conference in November, 2017 in Washington, DC.

The major sponsors of Finlit300 in 2017 are: National Endowment for Financial Education, Members First Credit Union, Merrimack Country Savings Bank, Meredith Village Savings Bank, Paul A. Pouliot & Associates, and EDvestinU.

NH Jump$tart President Daniel Hebert explained that “FinLit300 allows teens to be aware of the financial opportunities to build a better future, as well as the scams & frauds, and financial challenges that are part of everyday life. Given the current economic climate, we believe that FinLit300 should be part of e very high school student’s education.” The topics in FinLit300 are based on the Jump$tart National Standards in K-12 Personal Finance Education: Spending and Saving; Credit and Debt; Employment and Income; Investing; Risk Management and Insurance; and Financial Decision Making.
