Dunbarton, NH by Don Larsen: The 2017 Dunbarton Old Home Day celebration will be Saturday August 19th. It will be held on the Dunbarton Town Commons at Robert Rogers Rd and Stark Hwy South (State Hwy 13). This years festival promises to have more for kids and families, hours are 8am to 4pm.
Kick-off the Old Home Day celebration with the Fire Explorers Breakfast, 8am-10am at the Fire Department’s garage on Robert Rogers Rd. The Dunbarton Elementary School will be hosting a car wash behind the Police/Fire Department building noon to 4pm. Bring that dirty car or truck in, go home with a clean shiny one, its for a good cause!
The Old Home Day parade kicks off at 11:30 AM from Barnard Hill Rd thru the center of town. See town organization’s floats, antique cars and tractors and much more. Many will be on display after the parade at the Town Commons. The Nevers' Band will be playing at the bandstand on the Commons during and after the parade until 1:00pm. The Nevers’ Band has been performing for audiences across New Hampshire and other New England States for more than a century. Following the Nevers Band will be Danny Van Kalken with Dominic the Drummer, Sherpa Lizz Expedition and the Goffstown Pickers till 4pm.
The fun continues on the Town Common with FREE games for all ages. Old time games and activities, including sack races. There will be FREE face painting at 1pm-4pm. “Make a drop spindle” and learn how to spin at 1pm. “Make a basket” with Renee and Sean at 2pm. Deb Foster will host “The story of Rocks” at 3pm. Enjoy Trickey Dickey’s Magic Show, the Wild Life Encounters, and Dave Emerson’s Old Ways Tools for Kids Workshops. New this year will be a Corn Hole Tournament with brackets for kids 14 and under, and adults 15 and up, with single elimination. Bingo is back with prizes for the winners.
The Dunbarton Garden Club will be hosting the Food Tent on the Commons with hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, cookies, cold drinks and much more. There will be a FREE ice cream social from 2pm-4pm in the food tent hosted by the Old Home Day Committee and served by the Garden Club.
The Dunbarton Police & Fire Department will have a Vehicle Extraction Demonstration in front of the town offices at 12:30pm. The Dunbarton Library will be holding a book sale in the Town Hall Front foyer.
Exhibitors will be on the Common to demonstrate Dutch Oven Cooking and Geocache. Learn about the Milfoil in our ponds from the Milfoil committee. The American Legion, Wreaths Across Dunbarton and Dunbarton Historical Society will also have displays.
