Annual Pumpkin Weigh-off and Regatta
The Goffstown Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off and Regatta is an annual event hosted by the Goffstown Main Street Program and sponsored by TD Bank. For this event, Main Street is lined with booths of various organizations featuring food, art, music, flea markets, kids games and more.
The Goffstown Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) assisted the Goffstown Police Department with traffic control in addition to manning their own information booth and demonstrating proper use of fire extinguishers.
Members of CERT assisted Goffstown Police by directing traffic at four locations along Main Street aiding visitors in crossing the busy street. Traffic, both vehicle and pedestrian, was heavy from noon to 4pm but cooperation, courtesy, and patience from all made the event a fun afternoon.
The mission of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program is to educate people about disaster preparedness and train them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, and disaster medical operations. Using their training, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event and can take a more active role in preparing their community.
For more information about receiving training from Goffstown CERT, Teen CERT, or the STEP program, please call 497-4858 or visit our website at www.goffstowncert.org or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
